Recently, Zoom HQ changed its standing policy on academic freedom for higher education. The new policy will defer to customers when it comes to events and speakers that may be discriminatory and encourage hate speech. In this instance, we are talking about Leila Khaled, a Palestinian terrorist and a member of the U.S. government-designated Foreign Terrorist Organization, the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP). We are calling on Zoom to realize what this policy could mean for marginalized groups on college campuses and change this policy.
Leila Khaled is scheduled to speak on April 23rd at a San Francisco State University virtual Zoom event cosponsored by SFSU’s Arab and Muslim Ethnicities and Diaspora Studies program and the University of California Humanities Research Institute. A bit of background here- Khaled hijacked TWO airplanes on behalf of the PFLP. She is also believed to presently be a part of another terrorist organization that has been involved in suicide bombings, shootings, and assassinations among other violent acts. How can Zoom allow her to be a speaker at an event on its platform when it goes against federal laws that prohibit providing support (including technological services) for foreign terrorist organizations?
SIGN THE PETITION: STOP ZOOM FROM HOSTING EVENTS THAT PROMOTE TERRORISTS.
SFSU and Zoom are knowingly hosting a terrorist who has caused chaos and carnage. By allowing this event to happen they are going against federal laws and blatantly ignoring the physical safety of Jewish and pro-Israel students. If this event occurs and Zoom HQ does not step in, it could have exceedingly dangerous results for these already marginalized campus communities.
SIGN THE PETITION: We cannot allow this event to happen – protect marginalized students.
